Insights from Teachers' Day

To me, anyone who has shown me some truths of life or given me the opportunity to be enlightened is a teacher. And by all, Buddha is the greatest teacher who has taught me the most things.

To wait till Teachers' Day before we show some appreaciation to our teachers is probably the greatest disfavour we can do to them. Teachers constantly put in enormous amount to help students and would always want to see students improve. I have been a teacher for money and voluntarily. It has been a great experience giving my best for the students, the children. Little Ps and Qs really warm teachers' hearts and even a slight improvement in the students motivates teachers. In my opinion, these are the best appreciation we can offer to our teachers.

Similarly, because Buddha has given us enlightenment in the most dire moments of our lives, we must also show some appreciation. We do not just pray to Buddha on Vesak Day, we should always keep Buddha in our hearts. Buddhism teaches us to be kind and kindness begets kindness. It also teaches us to repay the kindness received in whatever ways we can because this world isn't one about taking, it is one about giving. When teachers deliver, they give us the knowledge and the power to use this knowledge, without which, we are very much ignorant. The same applies to Buddhism and its teachings, without them, we probably will not know the many truths in life. A consistent effort to pray to Buddha and keeping Buddhist teachings and beliefs in our hearts would definitely be the best tribute we can give to this greatest teacher of all time.
